Toonie #1 Presented by North Shore Bike Shop

The North Shore Bike Shop has stepped up as the title sponsor for the NSMBA's July 16th toonie race!  Thanks Matt!!

So here's the details:

Saturday July 16th: Pipeline.

Registration will be from 9 to 9:45am and the race will start at 10:15am.

Yup, there'll be coffee..

Race will be from the seconds gates up to Pipeline, down Pipeline to Baden Powell, left on Baden Powell and back up to the second gates.

We haven't confirmed the pub yet for afterwards, so will announce where that is closer to the race day - racers can head to the pub right after they're done racing, but prizes and such will be given out closer to 12:30pm (thanks to Steed Cycles and North Shore Bike Shop).

You MUST be an NSMBA paid member to race and you can register online.  This covers your insurance, so you do not need any additional diggy auto insurance online through Cycling BC.  Your membership will be good for a full 12 months from the date of payment - it doesn't expire automatically at the end of 2011.

The cost of the toonie race will be (big surprise) $2 on race day.  We will not have online registration for the race - but if you can vote on this poll if you're racing or not, then we'll have a rough headcount.

We will be having a volunteer meeting this Wednesday at 7pm - if you're interested in volunteering and haven't contacted me yet - send me an email at

We have a healthy volunteer roster this year, but seeing as how this race will be on a Saturday in the middle of summer, I expect that roster to be thinned out with people on vacation, etc. so some more hands would be helpful!

Toonie Race Update!

The first race had to be pushed from June 25, 2011 to July 16, 2011.  Still a Saturday though.  Subsequent races will be on the last Tuesday of the month (July 26 and August 30...Toonie Tuesdays!).  For all races, all participants need to be NSMBA members in order to be insured.  Memberships are good for a year from the purchase date.  There is no need to purchase any other membership or license, though we'll take a toonie from ya on race day!

On July 16th, the race will be on Fromme and will be an intermediate level route where most features have ride arounds.

The last volunteer call out was successful!  As of yesterday, the volunteer roster is up to 30 people!  If you are interested in volunteering, especially for the Tuesday races or if you have first aid certification, please email me at or if you have general questions, email us at

Lastly...we are looking for very special company to help us make these races more affordable for us to host!  If your wonderful company is interested in reviewing a sponsorship package, or in donating some sweet swag to give away to the participants and volunteers, please email

On June 2nd, the NSMBA is proud to present the return of Wade’s Excellent Adventure to the slopes of Fromme Mountain.

Moving into its third consecutive season, this year’s event has plenty of new adventures and a completely new format with four individual stages, including the Mega-Enduro-Super-Avalanche!

The team event will host two categories of max 4 member teams in either the Corporate or Citizen division, with the winner of the Corporate division having their names engraved on the famous Fromme Cup.  That is, if you’re able to dethrone last years winners, Team Rocky Mountain Bikes: Kevin Calhoun, Colin Kerr, Mike Hunter & Greg Day.

Wade's Excellent Adventure Results

What a day on Fromme!  On this past Saturday, June 12, 163 Adventurers' took part in Wade's Excellent Adventure vying for the Fromme Cup!  The weather was spectacular even if the trails were still slippery in spots with 3 weeks of most often rain prior to the big day.  But the clouds cleared and it was a glorious day!

Wade's Excellent Adventure raised $3500 for the trails of Fromme!

The teams assembled at the starting line and the Corporate Teams were first out of the gate, followed only two minutes later by citizen class.  By the time it was finished, Team BFJCC representing Cove Bikes had won the Fromme Cup with the fastest time of the day at 3:29:21.  The Citizen division was won by Team Pennywise, a two person team comprised of the Traslin Brothers in 3:32:23.

CORPORATE 1. BFJCC (Cove) 3:29:21     2. Fake Runkle did it (MEC) 4:11:15     3. Norco 4:41:50

The weekend nears and Fromme calls your name, it’s time for Wade’s Excellent Adventure to begin!

Tune your bike, rest your legs, and let dreams of dirt dance through your head.  The course is set and the mystery lain upon the trails of Fromme.

Your team will ride three trails each having one secret sign. When you complete all three trails, you will receive the fourth and final sign. Arrange the signs correctly to decipher the Secret Trail. First team to finish the Secret Trail will be crowned the winner! Keep in mind, no team is finished until the final rider returns.
